Sioux City has historical gems, modern attractions, serene parks and a growing art
scene. There are family-friendly things to do in Sioux City, as well as great places to spend an
afternoon by yourself.

The entertainment options in Sioux City are quite diverse, thanks to the city’s unique history.
For those who buy or rent homes in Sioux City, everyone has heard the story of Sergeant
Charles Floyd, one of the most prominent participants of the Lewis and Clark expedition who
died in 1804 on the upstream voyage. You can walk right up to the Sergeant Floyd Monument
where he is buried, which overlooks the Missouri River. Come and marvel at the Egyptian-style
obelisk monument, which stands around 100 feet high.

Next on your list? The Sergeant Floyd River Museum is also dedicated to preserving Floyd’s
memory, as well as displaying information from the expedition. The artifacts are housed on a
ship that served as working quarters for the Missouri River—and now operates as a museum
with three floors. The views of the river are incredible to see, and best of all, this museum is
free.
Still haven’t had your fill of Lewis and Clark history? The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is
located on the right side of the Missouri River, and it features interactive displays of the
westward journey. This attraction is great for kids and has an outdoor picnic area where
families can enjoy a bite together while discussing what they learned.

Speaking of kids, the LaunchPAD Children’s Museum is a place your children will love. There are
many different activities, including a block wall, build zone, water zone, flight zone, agriculture
zone, air tunnels, a market and café and a special area for infants and toddlers. This museum,
located downtown, is a perfect way to let children blow off some steam.

Are you and your family nature lovers? Be sure to check out the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center,
which offers a picturesque backdrop with both outdoor and indoor areas for wildlife viewing.
You’ll be treated to an amphitheater with outdoor seating, lush gardens and indoor classes with
hands-on learning experiences.

Located near the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center and Sioux River is Stone State Park. This is a
great area for hiking, camping and for spotting deer, foxes, turkeys and coyotes. You’ll notice
copious oak trees in the park, making you feel like you’re in a magical forest in the heart of the
Midwest.

Fans of visual arts will love the Sioux City Art Center—a sophisticated, glass-finished art
museum featuring 1,200 permanent paintings as well as special exhibits. Local artists showcase
their work here, and art classes are offered for those who wish to develop their talents. Do you
prefer cinema and symphony performances? Then a visit to the Orpheum Theatre must be on
your bucket list. The historic theatre boasts 2,650 seats and hosts everything from billboard
movies to Sioux City Symphony Orchestra performances to dance performances. The venue has
hosted the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Fred Astaire and Tallulah Bankhead over its tenure in
the city, giving it even more historic charm.

Sports lovers will without a doubt want to check out Mercy Field. As one of the top attractions
in Sioux City, it hosts sporting events ranging from baseball to soccer, to hockey and even
doubles as a playground for kids. Mercy Field is located at the famous Lewis & Clark Park and
officially opened in 1993. Come check out the beautiful views of the city while cheering on your
favorite team.

Interested in shopping, eating and being entertained? You have many options in Sioux City.
Southern Hills Mall, situated in the Morningside neighborhood of Sioux City, has 100 specialty
stores, as well as places to eat. With AMC Theatres located within the mall, shoppers can relax
with a movie and a tub of popcorn.

your luck at the slot machines and tables? This will be your happy place. The resort features
three restaurants, more than 50 rock-and-roll themed rooms, and a luxurious outdoor pool.
